Carol's background as a biologist informs much of her practice. Her work ranges from direct representations of images such as cells to conceptual ideas about memory, veiling and the uncanny.

Carol is currently creating works that are a re-reading of the domestic, in particular by subverting the net curtain. These conceptual textiles explore the idea of the familiar becoming strange and the homely becoming unhomely. They subvert the idea of the industrious, submissive female producing decorative coverings for the home and use the innocence, femininity and domesticity of lace to rethink the domestic veil of the net curtain.
