Battle of Britain
The original Battle of Britain commemorative machine-lace panel was made in 1946. Carol was commissioned to produce a contemporary textile response to it and her interpretation comprises three long panels. The central panel of needlerun lace on net incorporates the flora and aircraft from the original panel. The outer two panels include contemporary images of the sites depicted on the original panel. The work also includes an installation of 1497 stylized parachute shapes, one for each allied airman who died.
